| Completely self-centred, Cordelia
Chase aspires to be the most popular girl in school. She surrounds
herself with her own cliquey friends, and looks down haughtily on lesser
mortals, including Buffy, Willow and, especially,
Xander. |

| Tactless and outspoken, Cordelia is
devoid of compassion for others, and obsessed with her appearance.
Primarily concerned for her own safety, Cordelia often finds herself on
the periphery of Buffy’s adventures, (for example, she was competing
to become a cheerleader when Amy began using magic to bump off her
rivals, and was temporarily blinded). |

| Cordelia has trouble finding
boyfriends who meet her exacting standards, but there is no shortage of
potential candidates. Her only real rival is Buffy who, to her
amazement, some people (most notably Angel) prefer. Her close encounter
with Marcie Ross in 'Invisible
Girl' changes Cordelia’s frosty attitude, and she soon becomes
much closer to Buffy and the gang. Knowing that it could endanger her
'coolness rating' Cordelia was dating Xander, but the relationship ended
when she caught him kissing Willow, (in 'Lover’s
Walk'). More recently Cordelia has been involved with Wesley
Wyndham-Price. They are having an illicit relationship that they are
barely able to conceal from the rest of the gang. |

| In the alternative universe created
after Anyanka granted her wish that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale ('The
Wish') Cordelia was the only person who realised that things were
seriously amiss. This didn’t prevent her from becoming the victim of
the vampire versions of Willow and Xander… Thankfully Anyanka’s
spell was broken, and Sunnydale returned to normal. |
